Press Release

First Christian Church of Tulsa (FCC Tulsa) has an over 100-year legacy of witness and service in our city and beyond. Through Christ’s Grace the church accepts His mission to continue our legacy.

FCC Tulsa’s present sanctuary has provided a spiritual sacred space for worship services, baptisms, weddings, and funerals under the beautiful stained-glass dome. This church has had a rich history of educating people to be disciples of Jesus Christ. The sale of our building to Holy Family Cathedral will allow the property to continue in that mission for generations to come. Holy Family Cathedral and FCC Tulsa will work together over the next several months before the transaction is finalized. Our future work is not complete, so as a church we will continue to work to increase the love of God & neighbor in a new setting.

FCC Tulsa was organized on April 5, 1902, and has been a pillar of the Disciples of Christ movement for 121 years. Our congregation prospered as Tulsa prospered, and was blessed with the beautiful sanctuary located at 913 S. Boulder 103 years ago. Even with such a beautiful home, the congregation has always recognized our responsibility to spread the Gospel from our doorstep to the ends of the earth. FCC Tulsa has a rich history of helping establish new congregations as the city expanded. Countless ordained ministers have been fostered through FCC Tulsa to send Disciples to the suburbs to start new congregations. Our church also has a rich history of sponsoring countless young ministers whose faith was nurtured at FCC Tulsa.

FCC Tulsa intends to continue our tradition of ministry to the least of these, our neighbors, whom we serve and love in Christ’s name. We will spend the next 12-18 months continuing to worship and serve the Living God in our historic sanctuary. As we discern God’s will and the leading of God’s spirit to a new setting for ministry, we encourage all of our members, past and present, to be in prayer as we make important decisions that will affect the future of our church. As we face this challenging yet exciting time, we welcome all persons whose faith has been enhanced within these walls to come back and worship with us.
